So you’re thinking about building a custom home. We know you’ve done a ton of thinking about the inside. Now it’s time to pull all the pieces together and get the outdoor living space coordinated as well.
When it comes to custom garden designs, the possibilities are endless. The Cameron team are pros at helping you create a garden that reflects your own unique personality and style. With an eye for grade changes, elevations, pavers, and rock features, or that a lavish outdoor spa, we know a thing or two about building that epic yard.
Here’s our Cory sharing some wisdom on the matter.
Don’t neglect the exterior 😔
When we’re building a custom home one of the biggest issues we face when planning the backyard, is that people are so focused on the house that they forget the outdoor experience. Rather than neglecting the yard and putting off landscaping for a couple of years, it’s so much easier to incorporate it during the planning stage.
You should be thinking about where you want to have your pools, your spa, your entertainment space, so we can get the infrastructure laid down all at the same time. This will help us to forecast where we need to pour concrete and tackle any other heavy lifting that’s needed, like bringing in your fire pits and servicing your gas lines.
We also don’t want to overlook garden beds, elevation changes, and even irrigation. We can do that all at the same time while we’re in construction. It makes for a seamless operation.
What’s the vision for your yard?
First, it’s important to consider the purpose of the outdoor space and how you plan to use it. Is it for entertaining guests? Relaxing after a long day? Are you an avid gardener? Edible garden? Room for kids to run around?
Once you know what you want from your outdoor space, we can start thinking about the specific design elements that will make it perfect for you.
Some popular features of custom outdoor spaces include exotic rock and water features, designer stone pavers, as well as entertainment spaces for a true living room feeling.

The concept of modern landscaping
Modern landscaping is an approach to garden design that emphasizes simplicity and functionality. Traditional gardens were more formalized, often based on symmetrical designs and used ornamental plants to create a sense of order and structure.
Modern gardens are designed for practical purposes, not just for show, and promote more functional spaces that people could use to relax and enjoy nature.
Modern is your stone tiles, lighted pathways, a yard full of shrubs, colorful flowers and trees.
Traditional is your japanese gardens, your gardens with sculptures, mosaics, or other artwork.

I don’t know about your family, but the barbecue lifestyle is key to getting all the Cameron family together and enjoying our outdoor space, especially in the summertime.
How does it work? We come to you
One of the first questions we ask is, can we come and see your property?
We love getting the team out there into your yard, they’ve got an awesome eye for visualizing where the sun’s coming from and dreaming what’s possible.
And Cory particularly loves working with grades and getting a lot of elevation incorporated into the patios, the garden beds, the landscaping, and we can make a seemingly simple space look absolutely incredible.
There’s so many beautiful things you can have in your outdoor space. We love when we can extend that outdoor season by bringing in fire pits, barbecues, natural gas heaters, which allows you to go right into the wintertime and still be comfortable with your family. Go one step further with hot tubs, saunas, the sky’s the limit.
