A Contemporary Twist on Forest Greens
PPG Pittsburgh Paints recently released their colour of the year, called “Night Watch” (PPG1145-7). This deep green colour offers a contemporary twist on forest greens, inspired by nature with the goal of brining the healing properties of the outdoors into your home.
Earthy Clay Tones
Sherwin Williams has also unveiled their 2019 colour of the year, called “Cavern Clay”. This Western inspired tone is another nature-inspired hue that still offers contemporary flare.
Layers of Gray
Grays are anything but boring. We fell in love with Benjamin Moore’s colour of the year, “Metropolitan”, long ago and use it often when designing our homes. It is “subtle and elegant” and conveniently pairs well with the rest of our top colours.
Lastly, but certainly not least, we will start to see blues take on a softened mistiness and haze this year. This moody blue has a “calming grey undertone that promotes a more serene energy in the home”. Valspar’s “Seattle Haze” is one of our faves.
Top Design Choices
If you’re looking to add some instant character to a room, then you may want to try a statement ceiling. The fun thing about adding some artistic flare up top is that there are endless ways to make it pop. A lovely an cost effective way of doing so it add some trim detail (pictured above, left).
Pops of Colour
Adding pops of colour to a neutral, contemporary design is so 2019! Try adding colourful funishings or inject some depth by adding colourful pillows, throws, or even kitchen accessories. We love this trend as it is an easy and cost effective way to transform a room.
Another fun way to liven up a room is with wallpaper. Agate wallpaper (picture above, top right) is really hot right now. You can add wallpaper as an accent wall or even try it in your powder room.
Brass and gold finishing are making a come back. This time it is coming back in a softer, matt version of the shiny brass circa 90’s. Use it on your faucets, frames and fixtures.
Moody Powder Rooms
Adding black or charcoal tiles, wallpaper or paint to your powder room is in this year. If you’re looking to spice things up, try adding darker tones to your bathroom.
